freelance media and communications alabama

PRESS RELEASE: Released January 31, 2018 (updated on June 12)

Awards, skills, and work experience information of Alabama communications freelancers is at the new Find a Freelancer Program launched by Alabama Media Professionals

In a June 2018 Forbes article, Jon Younger notes that a report from Kleiner Perkins, a public equity firm, shows that " . . . the freelance workforce is large and growing. In fact, it is growing at 3X the rate of the total workforce." Besides the attraction to the workers, companies are finding that freelancers can be best for:

  • Special projects

  • Provide input from a professional not working in the company

  • Up-to-date strategy expertise in the constantly changing media/marketing industries.

This year, Alabama Media Professionals, a professional nonprofit organization, launched an innovative and convenient database of freelancers for Alabama businesses of all sizes to find the expert help they need. Companies will find the awards, skills, and work experience information of Alabama communications freelancers.

AMP is made up of nearly 50 writers, photographers, voice over and television personalities, artists, web designers and related professionals. Most of them are freelancers, available for hire to assist in media, marketing, and communications needs.

Searching the database is free. Business owners simply visit the website and click on the skill they need (writing, web design, artwork, etc.), then a list of AMP members who specialize in that area will be shown. No guarantee is given of job performance, but awards, work experience and primary skills are included to guide businesses to the person who might fit their needs. Communications freelancers in Alabama who would like to have this exposure with their professional profile on the AMP website can join the organization through the website for $26. Becoming an AMP member includes having a profile on the website at no additional charge. The website manager, Tina Tidmore, contacts new members for professional information as a service to its members. Alabama Media Professionals, a local affiliate of the National Federation of Press Women, has members of both genders and offers networking opportunities and education at monthly meetings and occasional workshops/conferences.
